Join our helicopter tours and go beyond El Mirador to discover more mysteries in the depths of the Maya Jungle...
Private helicopter tours of El Mirador are available year round. For a private helicopter tour of El Mirador, a helicopter will be flown from Guatemala City to Flores to accommodate your group. Depending on the size of the group and therefore the specifications of the helicopter, it may be possible for some of the group to take the helicopter from Guatemala City. However, due to the altitude of Guatemala City and the distance from here to Flores, it may not be possible for the whole group to arrive in this manner. When taking a private tour the group is responsible for the cost of transporting the helicopter to Flores. Our private tours include a professional archaeological and natural history guide and a decadent lunch fit for Mayan royalty.
Throughout the year there are also a number of special opportunity dates. During these times a helicopter is based in Flores, reducing the costs for all involved. Current special dates run from July 21 2017 through August 31 2017. During these dates a number of special opportunities are available:
Individuals wishing to take a helicopter tour of El Mirador may do so during this time. This is the only opportunity to participate in a helicopter tour without the need for a private group booking! This option provides the cheapest opportunity to discover El Mirador by helicopter. This tour includes a guide and lunch.
During special opportunity dates private helicopter tours are available at a reduced cost. Here groups have the opportunity to take a private helicopter tour from Flores. Our private tours include a professional archaeological and natural history guide and a decadent lunch fit for Mayan royalty.
During special opportunity dates it is possible for private groups to tour El Mirador by helicopter guided by project personnel or Dr. Richard Hanson. This provides the group with access to first hand information from those working at the site. To secure a guide from the project personnel a cash deposit in $USD must be made by credit card or wire transfer directly to the project. Our private tour with project personnel includes a helicopter tour from Flores and a decadent lunch fit for Mayan royalty.
Please note that if you wish to take photographs of the archaeological investigations you should take a project personnel guide. No pictures may be taken of the excavations or works before they have been published and accepted by IDAEH (Instituto de Anthropologia e Historia). Once findings have been published and accepted by IDAEH and presented at the Maya archaeology conference held in Guatemala City in July each year photographs may be taken.
For those wishing to support the project, on special occasions it is possible to spend the night at El Mirador. This opportunity is only available by arrangement with the project and direct donation in support of it.
We have the ultimate ecotourism adventure in store for the true adventurer, a perfectly fit spirit thristy for learning and experiencing the jungle at its very best, climbing the largest pyramid in the world and seeing ancient friezes modelled in stucco by Maya artists 300 years BC.
Our one day tour of El Mirador starts at Flores airport at 8 am (weather permitting we will leave by helicopter as close to this time as possible and go on a 5 hour trek after landing), we will walk along an ancient road that leads up to the Danta Complex. After appreciating the jungle from the top of the magnificent pyramid we shall continue by heading towards the Tigre Complex (climbing Tigre is optional), take pleasure and delight in appreciating the marvelous artwork on Structure 34, on the Friezes on the Hydraulic System and the gigantic ceremonial masks on Structure 313 before heading back to the campsite for lunch.
Overnight Tour
This unparalleled adventure is not for everyone, as the conditions at our park are so wild and basic that camping here will be a not soon to be forgotten experience and the roughest of all camping memories you will ever have, with the reward of being in the most untouched part of Guatemala and probably of the Americas along with the Orinoco and the Amazon jungles.
Our overnight tour of El Mirador starts at Flores airport at 8 am (weather permitting we will leave by helicopter as close to this time as possible), we will stay for 2 days filled with excitement and an overnight in the jungle, we will have a similar itinerary to the One Day Tour adventure, but we will climb El Tigre and enjoy the sunset over the jungle at El Mirador, also climbing Monos pyramid early in the following morning to catch the first rays of the sun breaking for a new morning before breakfast, departure will be around 10 am by helicopter back to Flores Airport.
Fly back and grasp the magnificence and volume of the Danta Complex from the air and the amazing Maya Biosphere Reserve. Return to Flores for your flight to Guatemala City or for overnight in Flores.
